(1) Notification of intention to submit a thesis for examination
Link to important information regarding February 21, 2012 submission deadline
Research students who intend to submit dissertations for examination must give 3 months' notice of their intention, on the standard PGR4 form. The PRG 4 form may be submitted at any time, subject to a student having fulfilled other requirements as stipulated in the SPCD regulations. These include the minimum period of registration for the degree in question, and supervisors' support.
Only completed forms will be accepted.
However, please note that 21 February 2012 is the final date for submission of the PGR4 form that will lead to an examination being held before the summer recess and to the conferment of an award in the following Autumn on successful candidates.
(2) Submission of research thesis by continuing students to qualify for €100 card fee
St Patrick's College requires all research students to register by the start of Semester One in any given year. Continuing students who are intending on submitting their research thesis by the end of November in the same year may, through their supervisor, request derogation from the appropriate research fee for that year and instead pay a card fee of €100. The request should be made by email to Dr Ciarán Mac Murchaidh, Dean of Research and Humanities and cc'd to Sharon King in the Office of the Dean of Research and Humanities, no later than 1 October.
To avail of this card fee, students must have registered for the academic year and submitted their thesis formally to the Registry by 1 December. If students do not meet this 1 December deadline they will be charged the normal research fee and will be unable to graduate until this fee has been paid in full. If the student's supervisor has not submitted the appropriate e-mail to the Dean of Research by 1 October and the thesis is submitted by 1 December the student will not qualify for the card fee. No exceptions will be entertained. This proposal applies only to those students submitting theses for examination and does not pertain to students who are submitting theses for examination having completed viva voces.
