What
is Eureka
- Eureka
is a science magazine exclusively for primary schools,
published by the Irish Independent and written and produced
by Paula Kilfeather, Cliona Murphy and Janet Varley From
the Centre for Science Education, based at St. Patrick’s
College, Drumcondra, Drumcondra, Dublin. The centre promotes
the learning of science at primary level.
- Eureka
supports the teaching of science in primary schools and
encourages pupils to learn about science through exploration
and discovery within the classroom and at home.
- Eureka
covers the four key stands – living things, materials,
energy, and environmental awareness – in easy to
understand and exciting ways. It reflects what’s
happening in the world around us, and how this relates
to the primary science syllabus.
Scientific
skills:
- Eureka
emphasises the development of scientific skill
- Children
are asked to predict, test and record in many of the activities
- The
idea of what is a fair test is introduced continually
Integration:
- Eureka
contributes to the wider education of the child
- Many
issues have links to Geography, History, Maths or Art
- Eureka
encourages pupils to learn about science through exploration
and discovery within the classroom and home

week
- This
briefly describes what the next issue will be about
- It
gives information about what resources and material will
be needed for the activities
