Welcome to the new Science Education website

St. Patrick's College takes an interdisciplinary approach to Science Education. Staff from the Biology and Education Departments co-operate to provide courses and materials that enable students to develop their understanding of Science Education.

The aims of Science Education are:

1. To learn to use a range of methodologies in the teaching of science. Particular emphasis is on science as a skill-based process in an active learning environment.
2. To become familiar with the cognitive development of children particularly with regard to their scientific understanding and common alternative conceptions.
3. To develop understanding of scientific concepts and skills.
4. To explore a range of issues relevant to the teaching of science.
