CENTRE FOR
HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
Research Focus
f

Praxis
The work at the Centre seeks not only to deepen understandings of development through research and scholarship but to also engage in debates, dialogue and actions with groups and institutions who are engaged in praxis (integrated reflection and action) to bring about a better society in which human beings can flourish.
Research Focus
Research undertaken at the centre for Human Development, although diverse in terms of disciplinary and methodological perspectives, has a number unifying threads:
the research is enriched by its interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach to investigating problems of development, human flourishing/ill-being across contexts and the life span;
the research is concerned with issues of social justice and equality and identifying the barriers and challenges faced by human beings individually and collectively in the current socio-historical context;
the Centre for Human Development recognises the significance of education to development and undertakes research projects that can identify thinking and practice, policies and approaches that will enhance understandings of the meaning of education today and how these educational ideas can be implemented for individuals and the communities in which they live;
the research informs teaching and learning in both under- and post-graduate programmes in Human Development and Education.
