GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION
(PRIMARY TEACHING)

Dr. Pauric Travers, President, presents the inaugural Catherine Mahon medal to Eimear McSweeney, with Dr. Philomena Donnelly, Programme Director.
The Graduate Diploma programme equips students with the principles, curriculum knowledge and pedagogical understanding with which to begin their teaching careers as competent and committed professionals.
The programme is responsive to the changing contexts of primary education, offering student teachers opportunities to engage critically with the interface between society and education.
Irish Language Strand: Students can elect to join the Irish Language Strand within which a selection of courses are delivered and assessed as Gaeilge. The courses offered to date are Physical Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Personal and Health Education, Curriculum Mathematics, Citizenship and Curriculum History. Students may also opt to do their Teaching Practice through the medium of Irish in a Gaeltacht or all-Irish school.
