Students with Disabilities

The Disability Service offers advice and support to students with disabilities and/or significant ongoing illness. We also deal with additional requirements that students may have while attending the college. If you have applied to St. Patrick's College through CAO, have ticked the box and have any such requirements then please contact us at any time to discuss your needs and we can make the necessary arrangements.

Mature students who do not gain admission through CAO but rather through the Direct Entry route for Mature Students are strongly encouraged to contact us to discuss their needs. If you are considering coming to the College and have a disability or significant ongoing illness that may impact on your learning needs you should make contact with us as early as possible to ensure we can best meet your needs. Disclosing a disability to the Disability Service will not affect your application to the College adversely.

Students who choose not to disclose their disability or contact us in the academic year prior to their entry should be aware that there may be a delay in accessing supports they may need.

The Disability Service conducts a needs assessment on entry to the College with all students who disclose a disability on their CAO form. We have a range of assistive technology supports and liaise with the Registrars Office in providing exam accommmodations for qualifying students. We also make applications to the Fund for Students with Disabilities administered by the HEA.

Evidence of Disability

All students wishing to register with the Disability Service must provide us with verification of their disability or significant ongoing illness. Usually this will take the form of a consultants letter. Please note GP letters will not suffice as evidence of a disability. Students with SLD's such as Dyslexia or Dyspraxia must provide us with an Educational Psychologist's assessment dated no more than three years prior to your year of entry.
