St Patrick's College is fully committed to complying with the Freedom of Information Acts 1997 & 2003.
The Freedom of Information (FOI) Acts establishes three statutory rights as below:
- a legal right for each person to access information held by public bodies
- a legal right for each person to have official information relating to him/herself amended where it is incomplete, incorrect or misleading
- a legal right to obtain reasons for decisions affecting oneself.
This Act asserts the right of members of the public to obtain access to official information to the greatest possible extent consistent with the public interest and the right of privacy of individuals.
The College is required, under the FOI Act to publish two Reference Manuals.
Our Manual Guide to the Functions and Records of St Patrick's College, has been prepared and published in accordance with the requirements of Section 15 of the Act. Its purpose is to facilitate access to official information held by this College, by outlining the structure and functions of the College, details of the services we provide and how they may be availed of, information on the classes of records we hold and information on how to make a request to the College under the Freedom of Information Act, 1997.
Our Manual Guide to the Internal Rules and Practices of St Patrick's College has been prepared and published in accordance with the requirements under Section 16 of the Act. It outlines the rules, guidelines and precedents used by the College in carrying out its functions.
The College is also committed to good record keeping practices and with this in mind have published a schedule for the retention periods of College records.
General Staff Advice
A general advice to staff document has been published. It aims to advise staff on general FOI issues in particular good record keeping practices.
