TERMS OF REFERENCE


  1. To promote an ethos of self-evaluation and continuous quality improvement within the College, and to enhance thereby the student and staff experience.
  2. To advise and make recommendations to Management Committee and Academic Council (as appropriate) on policies for quality assurance and improvement, arising from the College and the University's responsibilities under the Universities Act (1997); and from the requirements of national agencies such as the Higher Education Authority, that have a remit for quality in higher education.
  3. To advise Management and Academic Council on the establishment of a framework of principles, policies, priorities, procedures and good practice for the promotion of outstanding quality in teaching, research and administration.
  4. To liaise with the Quality Promotion Unit and other appropriate bodies and individuals in the University.
  5. To be familiar with the latest developments in the field of quality assurance/quality improvement and to disseminate information on best national and international practice.
  6. To facilitate departments and units to undertake regular reviews and improvement of quality.
  7. To consult as appropriate with College staff and students in relation to Quality Promotion.
  8. To review the range of quality assurance mechanisms used both at institutional level and by departments and units, to provide advice as appropriate and to ensure the cross-fertilisation of experience with procedures throughout the College and University.
  9. To make recommendations to Management Committee on the allocation of funding to support quality improvement measures recommended by peer review groups in departments and unit reviews, and to monitor the benefits resulting from such funding.
  10. To support and encourage equality of opportunity and outcome and to enhance the quality of the student and staff experience at the College.
  11. To provide an annual report to Management Committee and Academic Council.
  12. To review and within six months to make recommendations on the most appropriate reporting structure for the Coordinator of Quality Promotion.
  13. To review, and where necessary, to propose revisions of these terms of reference from time to time.
