19th Annual Song Contest
On Wednesday 9th April, St Patrick's College held its 19th Annual Song Contest in the college’s auditorium. The show displayed a wide range of talent and variety in music, from rock bands to pianos and string quartets. The contest was judged by Jones Irwin, Patricia Flynn and Hugh Gash, Student Union President, Joanne Toal and Ken Touhy from Near FM.
The presenters for the night were Chris O’Sullivan and Eimear Philbin, who kept the audience entertained between acts. There were nine acts in total. The prize for Best Song was awarded to 2nd Year B.Ed Damien Fegan and his band, ‘The Endemics’ for their song “Why do You Break Me (Like You Do)?”. The award for Runner-Up Song was presented to 1st Year B.Ed, Davina Baker and her ensemble, ‘Front Row to the Back’ with their song, “A Heart Rendered”. Award for Best Entertainment on the night was 2nd Year B.A. Brew Mbirkia and his band, ‘Blue Sun’ for their song, “Whatever Happened to Love?”
