The Postgraduate Society
St Patrick’s College Postgraduate Society next meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 20th at 8pm in Room D115, St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9. Conor MacNamara, doctoral student, Department of History, will present a twenty-minute paper and will be followed by discussion and an interchange of ideas.
The paper is entitled: ‘Our Ungrateful Country Neighbours,’ Town tenant protest and the battle against ‘house-lordism’ in the west of Ireland, 1900-1914.
This paper promises to be exciting and provocative. It examines the town tenant protest movement in the west of Ireland from 1900 to 1914 and the extent to which the fortunes of the Town Tenants League highlights the cultural chasm which existed between town and country in rural Ireland in the early 20th century.
The society welcomes all interested persons from the staff and student bodies. Postgraduate students from all disciplines who have not yet had a chance to do so are most welcome to take this opportunity to join the society.
