Abolition Conference
The bi-centenary conference to mark the abolition of the slave trade was held in St Patrick's College College, Drumcondra on 9 and 10 February 2007.
The conference was a collaboration between St. Patrick's College, the Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education (St. Patrick's College), Amnesty International (Irish Section), the Africa Centre, Trocaire and Anti-Slavery International.
The conference addressed both historic and contemporary manifestations of slavery. Keynote addresses were given by James Walvin (University of York), Aidan McQuade (ASI), Nini Rogers (QUB) and Professor Luke Gibbons (Notre Dame). Workshops were hosted by St. Patrick's College, the Africa Centre, Trocaire, Anti-Slavery International, Amnesty International (Irish Section) and Concern. An exhibition on historic and contemporary slavery was launched at the conference. Reports on the conference and educational materials on slavery will be available to download from www.spd.dcu.ie/chrce from mid-March.

Workshops and lectures were given on historic and contemporary issues of slavery by the Africa Centre, Amnesty International (Irish Section), Trócaire, Anti-Slavery International and St. Patrick’s College. Pictured is Rotimi Adebari, who gave one of the workshops.
