Autumn Fire
The TC Murray play Autumn Fire, directed by Pegeen Coleman, was staged in the College from 12-15 November, in aid of the Neurological Institute at the Mater Hospital.
TC Murray is one of the distinguished alumni of St Patrick's College. He came to the College on a Queen's scholarship in 1891, graduating as a national teacher in 1893. Over the next twenty-two years he was a dedicated teacher in his native county Cork, working successively in Carrignavar, Cork city, Carrigtwohill and Rathduff. In 1915, he moved to Dublin to become Headmaster of the Model Schools in Inchicore, where he remained until his retirement in 1932. He enjoyed distinction in his senior years as President of the Irish Playwrights' Association and President of the Irish Academy of Letters, and was awarded an Honorary D.Litt by the National University in 1949. He died in 1959 in Dublin.
The play "Autumn Fire" was first produced at the Abbey Theatre on Monday 8th September 1924.
