Be Active, Learn and Have Fun
An exciting project facilitated by St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra and funded by Cuisine de France, commenced on Monday 24 April 2006 in St Brigid’s Primary School, Castleknock. The Project is based on:
- Supporting teachers, in teaching Physical Education throughout the whole school
- Implementing a Physical Activity Programme for First class children, after school
Focus of the project
This project seeks to provide opportunities to raise the physical activity levels of children in St Brigid’s NS, Castleknock, through working with them in the context of their Physical Education Programme and within an extra-curricular physical activity programme. The project will be based on a whole-school approach. It will target teachers, parents and children by providing support for them in their effort to increase the physical activity levels of the children in their care. It also aims to target the children themselves by raising awareness of their daily physical activity patterns.
The project will support teachers in their teaching of Physical Education throughout the school and support a small cohort of volunteer parents in offering a programme of physical activity in a structured after school setting for First class pupils. The focus of the support for teachers will be on building on their experience of the national in-service programme currently in place and supporting them in the implementation of the revised Physical Education curriculum for primary schools. Parents of the children involved in the extra-curricular programme will be invited to enrol their children on the programme and to support the children throughout the programme.
