Bríd Laffan RIP

The death has occurred of Bríd Laffan, a much loved member of the Department of Special Education in St Patrick’s College. Bríd’s funeral mass, celebrated by her cousin, Mgr Jim Cassen, took place in the College Chapel on Saturday 22 April. Our deepest sympathy is extended to Brid’s husband Vincent, sisters Mary and Joan (Sr Mary Laetitia), brothers John and Seamus and the extended Laffan and Sheridan families.

In the relatively short time since she joined the staff of the Special Education Department in 2001, Bríd made a deep and abiding impact. As a teacher, mentor, colleague and friend, she was generous, loyal, dedicated and inspiring. Her calm and serene presence belied a boundless energy and passionate commitment.

A native of Co. Kilkenny, Bríd was a graduate of the Carysfort College, UCD, TCD and St Patrick’s College. She worked at all levels of the education system, in every type of school, with children and with adults, with parents and teachers, in Ireland and in Canada. She made a particular contribution in the area of special education. She will be a great loss to her colleagues in the Special Education department, to the College and to the wider education community.
