Buckley World Premier
The latest composition by distinguished composer Dr John Buckley was premiered at the National Concert Hall on Saturday evening, 9th September 2006. Entitled “Campane in Aria” (Bells in the Air), this work was especially commissioned by the National Concert Hall to celebrate its 25th Anniversary. The premier formed part of a Gala Concert attended by President Mary McAleese and a distinguished invited audience. The other works performed by the RTE Symphony Orchestra, under conductor Gerhard Markson, were Mozart’s Symphony No. 35 in D.K.385 (Haffner) and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (Choral).
Campane in Aria is a direction occasionally given to the horn section in the orchestra indicating that the bells of the instruments, which normally face away from the audience, should be raised in the air. The effect on the sound is resonant and exhilarating. The piece is in a single movement of approximately seven minutes duration.
Dr Buckley, who is a graduate of St Patrick’s College, lectures here in Music and Music Education.
