Minister Launches Two Publications

Brendan Smith T.D., Minister for Children recently launched two important publications by the Centre for Early Childhood Development and Education (CECDE):'An Audit of Research on Early Childhood Care and Education  in Ireland 1990-2006 (2nd Edition)' & 'Síolta Research Digests' at a reception in the Department of Education Malborough Street.

The first publication is 'An Audit of Research on Early Childhood Care and Educationin Ireland 1990-2006 (2nd Edition)', an updated and expanded version of our original Audit of Research which was launched by An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in 2003.  Containing over 1800 early childhood references including conference presentations, papers, reports, submissions, journal articles and postgraduate theses, the Audit provides an overview of research on ECCE in Ireland and is a valuable tool for students, practitioners and policymakers alike. Its contents will also be searchable on an online database.

The second publication is called 'Síolta Research Digests' and was originally published as 16 separate documents within the Síolta Workshop Materials developed in co-operation with FÁS. Until now, these have only been available to those who participated in a Síolta Workshop Seminar run by the CECDE in April and September 2007. Each digest relates to a Standard of Síolta, the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and reviews current research literature.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister commented on the large number of valuable reports produced by CECDE and by the manner in which CECDE has consistently linked their research with policy and practice thus helping in a very real way, the development of national policy.
