CERC Activities
Drs. Marilyn Cochran-Smith and Larry Ludlow, professors at the Lynch School of Education, Boston College, were recent visitors to St Patrick’s College. On June 13 they led a professional development day for staff of the Education Department. The first part of the day focused on a conceptual framework for considering/reconsidering the work of teacher education programs. In the afternoon they presented on a five year initiative funded by the Carnegie Corporation and the Ford and Annenberg Foundations called Teachers for a New Era (TNE). The goal of this project is to strengthen teacher education programs in selected universities in the US, including Boston College
On June 14 Marilyn and Larry were participants at the third symposium of Colleges of Education Research Consortium (CERC). Individuals from the DES, ERC, INTO, NCCA and Teaching Council, teacher educators from North and South and practising teachers took part. The day was designed to provide an opportunity for the exchange of ideas about research on teaching and teacher education in Ireland and to increase opportunities for collaborative research on topics of mutual interest.
On June 15 our visitors consulted with the CERC team involved in the Teachers’ Lives project. This DES funded research project is concerned with identifying key factors influencing feelings of satisfaction or dissatisfaction in the daily lives of teachers.
