St Patrick's Centre for Children's Literature and Culture Studies Lecture
ON Thursday, 23rd November, 7 p.m. Room E210, St Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9
A lecture by distinguished children’s literature specialist, Professor Rosemary R Johnston on the following topic:
Of Connection and Community: Children's literature, Sameness and Difference
This lecture is designed to provoke consideration about the ways in which children's literature expresses connection or disconnection to communities, which may be thought of in specific terms as communities of for example family, school, race, nation, gender, diaspora, and in more theoretical terms as communities of place and time. The lecture relates this to notions of identity and to the deep performance of identity within, the idea of soul.
Professor Johhnston is Director of Teacher Education, and Director of The Centre for Research and Education in the Arts at The University of Technology, Sydney, NSW, Australia. She is closely involved in children's literature research, and has been a keynote speaker at a number of international venues. She has been widely published in Australia and internationally. She has held positions with the International Research Society for Children's Literature, the Children's Literature Association, the Australasian Association for Children's Literature and Research. She is on the Board of several Australian arts bodies, including Dromkeen, the Australian Children's Literature Museum.
