Minister Lenihan Salutes St Patrick's College Students
The outstanding contribution of current and former students of St Patrick’s College to the Chernobyl 10k charity was acknowledged at a ceremony in the College on 26 April 2006. At a ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the Chenobyl explosion, Conor Lenihan TD, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs with special responsibility for Overseas Development and Human Rights, unveiled and presented to the College a specially commissioned sculpture by Belarussian artist Igor Trigno. In his remarks, the Minister saluted the idealism, energy and endeavour of the students in the cause of the victims of Chenobyl.

Among the other speakers were Joe McGrath, Shane Davis, current President of the Student Union, and Rory McDaid, former President, iSet-up in 2000 by Dublin Institute of Technology Marketing Lecturer, Joe Mc Grath, the 10K Walk has raised a million euro for humanitarian projects in post-Chernobyl Belarus, a country with unforgiving health, social and economic problems. This year the walk has been replaced by a sponsored cycle by students in Belarus.
