Visual Art Education Exhibition

By Laragh McFeely

The class of 2011 in St Patrick's College have produced an exhibition of work which has to be experienced! Each student who elected to take art as a By Claire Keenaspecialisation, has a space which showcases the culmination of a year’s work. Students took a thematic approach and developed series of linked projects within their chosen theme. The projects include the creation of an illustrated book for children of a chosen age group, the development of a puppet who is a character in their illustrated book. Some developed sets for their puppets/stories, others created props from the story, which are used to help narrate the story to children. Containers were cleverly designed for precious items, which link also with their themes and in some cases are also part of their set design.  The range of two dimensional work spans various media such as Batik, pencil, chalk pastels, acrylic and water colour paints, oil pastels, print and wool fibre.  By Adrienne Kerr

The full extent of the learning that takes place throughout the year through process and experience in making art themselves, is evident in the Classroom Projects.  The students showcase their plans taking the thematic approach to lesson planning, and most importantly rationalising their approach to planning for art.  As part of this the students also include a piece of work they specifically designed for use in conjunction with their lessons in the classroom.By Michael Byrne

A digital video of artwork done by children in the classrooms on TP, and a combination of evaluative comments made by the students is also on show as part of the exhibition.  A special addition to this year’s exhibition is a new space, in the common area in E Block which houses an exhibition of portraits which focus on inventive exploration of colour and tone.By Jane Kent

By Caitriona BohannaThe work is drawn from close observation by the students of one another. Another aspect of this new space is an exhibition of hats which were based on the theme of water which was carried out during integration week this year.
