College Women's Volleyball Team
St Patrick’s College Women's Volleyball Team reached the All Ireland College's Volleyball Final after an impressive display in DCU which is a very first for the College. After finishing in 2nd place on the day in the Qualifying group just behind Dundalk IT, who had only narrowly beaten St Pats (2-1 in Sets) the chance to reach the Finals in UCD was still on, it just meant that St Pats would have to beat a strong Carlow IT in the Semi Final. After losing the 1st Set it wasn't looking good, but the character and determination of the team fought back to win the 2nd set. The team was not going to let slip away a chance of a place in the final and before the team went onto the Court for the 3rd set, everyone stood together and the roars of "Haon, Dó, Trí, Coláiste Phádraig" echoed around the Sports hall and this set the tone that this team was not going to be beaten.

Back Row: Leona Martley, Orla Burke, Aoife Ward, Vanessa Farrell, Johh Walsh (Coach) Front Row: Caoimhe Leavey, Sarah Callaghan, Fiona Brennan (Capt), Kiri Lowry, Mary Grogan. (Missing team member: Eibhlín McGaughey)
This was to be realized as the team stormed to victory by putting together their best play of the day to ensure a place in the Final in the UCD Sports Hall against Dundalk IT or NUI Maynooth, as both teams have many quality European players, it will be a challenge but one that this team can overcome after defeating the all European Carlow side. Its an incredible story for these 10 players as back in September this was a team with just two players having previously played Volleyball, in such a short space of time, the team has quietly gone about its training and they now deservedly find themselves in the All Ireland Colleges Final.
