Comenius Intensive Course
Ten St Patrick’s College students attended a Comenius Intensive Course to Braganca in Portugal in June-July 2009 for two and a half weeks of lectures seminars and visits to educational centres for people with special needs (seven hours a day - five days a week). The course was about provision of education to people with special needs to enable independent living. The course was designed to promote understanding of how people in difficulty within the education system can be helped in Ireland and in the other participating countries in this course: Spain and Portugal. There was an emphasis on learning difficulties and professional collaborative practice. Indeed, the international context of the course provided much detail about how the educational systems work in each of the three countries. Zita Lysaght from the Special Education Department and Hugh Gash from the Education Department (St Patrick’s College) contributed to the course. The other partners were the University of Zaragozza and the Instituto Politechnico of Braganca.
