Universal Declaration of Human Rights 60th Anniversary
On December 10th, 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was agreed by the then nations of the world in Paris. It has since been signed up to, if not fully respected, by all nations on the planet. The Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education, St Patrick’s College are marking this important anniversary by joining the national and international celebrations and commemorations of the event by supporting the following initiatives:
Members of St Patrick’s College community are being invited to share their human rights hero- who they are, what they did, what they said or why they are important to them. The contributions will be posted to a special area on the Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education website. Suggestions will also be displayed on a special display area in the college on the week of December 8th. Amnesty International have donated some beautiful children's books which will be raffled amongst all contributors.
Ideas and suggestions should be sent to brian.ruane@spd.dcu.ie or post to Brian Ruane, Programme Leader, Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education, Room B132, St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9.
Lecturers, tutors and teachers in the college are also being asked to consider giving some time to talking about a human rights figure or human rights issues to students on December 10th and to mark this special day.
