| Doctoral Studentship Award
Maria Westvall, of the Music Department, St Patrick's College has been awarded a doctoral studentship from Örebro University in Sweden.
The Doctoral studentship includes a full-time employment in the Department of Music at Örebro University, where the main prospective is to finish a doctoral thesis as well as to take part in taught courses and seminars. Lecturing and supervision will be part of the employment, but the main objective is to carry out PhD studies.
The competition for a doctoral studentship in Sweden is intense, and the research currently being carried out by Maria was ranked first in its category in two universities, which is a splendid recognition of the research that has been carried out at St Patrick’s College to this point. Prior to this Maria’s doctoral studies were made possible by the collaboration between the University of Gävle Sweden and St Patrick’s College.
The Department of Music at Örebro University is a recognised national centre for the study of musicology and music education in Sweden. The combination is unusual but specifically suited to this particular research. This is a great opportunity to work with internationally recognised researchers on Music and identity and Music education, such as Professor Börje Stålhammar and Assistant Professor Christer Bouij.
