Eco-Literacy in Primary Schools
A visit to St Patrick's College by Dr Alan Peacock on 22 April provided a thought provoking and stimulating seminar on the importance of education in combating climate change. Dr Peacock's audience are now well equipped with the skills of using bread sticks, ice cubes, and olive oil to demonstrate effectively to children and to adults the impacts climate change will have on our planet and on our lives! Dr Peacock was invited to Ireland by the DICE Project which supports the delivery of development and intercultural education in the colleges of education in Ireland. The project receives support from Irish Aid.
Dr Alan Peacock is an Honorary Research Fellow in the University of Exeter and editor of the journal Primary Science. He is author of a number of manuals and books on environmental education including Eco-Literacy for Primary Schools (Trentham Books, 2004).
