Dr Max Stephens Visit
Dr Max Stephens, a Senior Research Fellow in Science and Mathematics Education from the University of Melbourne is currently a visiting scholar at Oxford University in the UK recently visited St Patrick's College. Dr Stehens is editor of a recent book: Japanese Lesson Study in Mathematics: Its Impact, Diversity and Potential for Educational Improvement. Because of his interest in Lesson Study, which is not yet widely practised in Europe, Dr Stephens came to St Patrick’s College to meet the third year mathematics elective group who are Learning to Teach Mathematics Using Lesson Study. Dr Stephens other great interest is early algebra and the development of relational thinking. He very kindly gave an interesting and enjoyable seminar to the maths elective group on Thursday, April 3rd, before making his way to Salt Lake City, Utah to address the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
