Taoiseach launches new early learning initiative

An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, launched a new early learning initiative at the National College of Ireland on 29th January 2008.

The Early Learning Initiative (ELI) is a community-based educational initiative aimed at redressing educational disadvantage through the provision, from birth, of an integrated programme of activities, training and supports for children, their parents and families, and child care/education providers.

This initiative is launched in collaboration with St Patrick's College.

Agencies are invited to tender for an educational research project focusing on the inner city Docklands community, with a view to establishing a baseline for the evaluation of the overall effectiveness of its programmes in changing the learning environment and educational attainment of target area children over the next decade.
