MA Student Wins Major Composing Award

Eoin Mulvany BMus, a second year Research MA student in the Music Department in St Patrick’s College, has won the prestigious “Jerome Hynes Composers Competition 2006”.  Eoin’s winning composition ‘PX2’ for flute and piano will be premiered in the National Concert Hall on Wednesday 7th February as part of the ‘Rising Star’ recital series.  Flautist Emer McDonough and pianist Jeremy Young will perform the work.  Eoin’s star is certainly on the rise and his research/composition supervisor, Dr Rhona Clarke, and the Music Department are justifiably proud of his achievement.

Speaking of his successful win Eoin commented “I am delighted to be awarded this prize for composition with ‘PX2’. It is a great honour to be recognised in this way for something that I love to do”.

“The Jerome Hynes Composers Competition” offers young Irish composers the opportunity to have their works assessed in a competition, with the winning student being offered a performance of their work as well as a substantial cash prize. This composers competition is named after the late Jerome Hynes who was an important  member of the National Concert Hall Board.
