Erasmus Visiting Lecturers
Two guest lecturers visited St Patrick's College during the week 14th April – 18th April on Erasmus teacher exchange visits - Dr Malgorzata Karwowska-Struczyk, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Education of the University of Warsaw, and Mme Francoise Hapel, Erasmus Co-ordinator, IUFM d’Antony, Versailles.
Dr Karwowska-Struczyk, a psychologist, is a teacher educator in the Department of Education, University of Warsaw and has written extensively in the area of Early Childhood Education. During her stay, she taught a number of classes with the 3rd Year B.Ed students concentrating on some of the intercultural issues that Irish teachers should be aware of when teaching Polish children. She also had discussions with Heino Schonfeld, Director of the Centre for Early Childhood Development and Education (CECDE), with members of the Education Department specialising in Early Childhood Education, and with many other members of staff across a range of disciplines.
Mme. Hapel’s special areas of expertise are ‘French for Foreigners’ and ‘Physical Education’ and in the course of the week was able to share with members of both of these college departments ideas and teaching practices in relation to the work being done in Versailles, and to introduce some of her own material and methods to the St Patrick’s College students. Again, a particular focus of Mme Hapel’s work was interculturalism and the ways it could be promoted in PE using music and dance. The college has a very close relationship with the IUFM Versailles and has currently three of our students there on Erasmus study exchanges.
The visitors also expressed a wish to visit an Irish primary school during their stay and found the experience extremely beneficial and interesting.
