Expert Advisory Group on Educational Disadvantage

On February 24th, Dr Paul Downes Director of the Educational Disadvantage Centre (EDC), St Patrick’s College and Dr Ann Louise Gilligan founder and former Director, attended the first meeting of the Expert Advisory Group on Educational Disadvantage to the Joint Oireachtas Committee for Education and Science in Dail Eireann.

Other members of the Advisory Group consist of a range of representatives from organisations and schools across the country, including Dr Peter Archer, Research Fellow with the ERC, Aidan Savage, National Coordinator of the National School Completion Programme, John Lonergan, Governor of Mountjoy Prison, Dr. Emer Smyth, Research Professor and Dr. Delma Byrne, Post Doctoral Fellow, both with the ESRI, and Dermot Stokes, National Youthreach Coordinator.  Senator Fidelma Healy Eames has convened the group on behalf of the Joint Oireachtas Committee for Education and Science, with Dr Jude Cosgrove, Research Associate from the Educational Research Centre (ERC), assisting with the research.
