Fibonacci Project
On the 15th of June the Centre for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Teaching and Learning (CASTeL) in St Patrick’s College, and Discover Science and Engineering launched the €4.3 million European funded Fibonacci project in St Patrick's College. The Fibonacci project is an inquiry based science and mathematics education programme, which aims to help develop an integrated strategy for scientific literacy and awareness for primary schools across Europe. In Ireland, the project will initially involve twelve primary schools as part of a pilot scheme with twenty-four teachers developing expertise in using hands-on inquiry-based approaches to science with children. The pilot scheme will then gradually expand out to other primary schools. The Fibonacci project as a whole, will involve 24 countries in Europe developing their own projects for promoting inquiry-based science/maths education (IBSE) in local schools, whilst also sharing expertise with groups in other countries. Dr Clíona Murphy and Dr Janet Varley from the Centre for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Teaching and Learning (CASTeL) at St. Patrick’s College will coordinate the project.
