Launch of Online course in Special/Inclusive Education

Certificate/ Diploma in Education (Special/Inclusive Education)

On Saturday last, students were inducted for the new Certificate/ Diploma in Education (Special/Inclusive Education) online course, developed by the Special Education Department and In-service Education Programme personnel of St Patrick’s College, in collaboration with Institute of Child Education and Psychology, Europe (ICEP).

In response to the challenges facing teachers and schools as they implement inclusive educational policy in practice and deal with a wide diversity of pupils with special educational needs in mainstream schools, this online course aims to develop teachers’ knowledge, skills and competencies thus enhancing the provision of appropriate education for children and young people in mainstream settings.

It is envisioned that this online course will enable mainstream primary and post-primary teachers to participate in continuing professional development, in a structured, intensive and sustained way at convenient times, in an easily accessible manner regardless of location, while at the same time allowing for the practical application of the skills learned at classroom level.
