Imagining Traditions
St Patrick's College Human Development students recently attended a field trip to the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin Castle accompanied by Senior Tutor, Dr Andrew O'Shea.
The 2nd year course in ‘Philosophies of Imagination’ at St Patrick's College introduces students to different narratives of imagination through the ages. While at the Chester Beatty Library the students learned about early methods of writing and recording, and received a tour of some examples from the Christian tradition of iconography and of some examples from the Islamic illuminations of the Word in the Qur’an. They also saw rare images of the prophet Mohamed, among other priceless artefacts in the Library. They were joined on the tour by an Erasmus student from the Czech Republic, who is auditing the class as part of her studies in Ireland.
