International Day 2009

Wednesday 22nd April was International Day in St Patrick’s College. Various events were scheduled for the day including a promotion of the College’s International programmes; and an International Evening for Erasmus, American and Irish students.
The promotion, organised by the International Office, was aimed at informing students of the various exchange programmes available to them, as part of their degree, in partner-colleges abroad. These are the one-semester study abroad programmes in the second semester of students’ second year and are open to both the BEd and BA. students in a range of partnership colleges in Europe, the USA, and – this year for the first time – in Japan; and the year-long study abroad programme in students’ third year for those students who have opted to pursue the 4-year BEd or BA International degree. Exhibition stands representing the EU and USA colleges with whom St Patrick’s has links were ‘manned’ by international students from these colleges presently studying in St Patrick’s, all very keen to promote their institutions to potential St Patrick’s students. Also some Irish students who had already spent time abroad under the Erasmus and International Programme came along to offer their information and advice to potential applicants.
The International Evening, organised by the Students Union, was a great success with the College Trad Group providing a rousing display of Irish music and dance, followed by demonstrations from the international students of their dances and songs ranging from folk songs and dances from the Czech Republic and Finland through to Rock ‘n Roll and the Charleston from the USA.
