Institute of Physics Teacher of Primary Science 2010 Award for College Graduate

Jane McLoughlin Shimizu, who is a graduate of the College, was recently awarded the prestigious Teacher of Primary Science Award 2010 by the Institute of Physics (www.iop.org). She is the first Irish primary teacher to have won this title, for her inspirational work in the classroom and with other teachers. The IOP citation describes her as “..an outstanding teacher, who inspires both pupils and colleagues. She finds creative ways to engage and motivate young pupils, encouraging even the shyest to participate. Always generous with her time and expertise, she is a champion for the teaching of science in her own school and other schools throughout Ireland”.
We offer heartiest congratulations to Jane. Examples of her science work with her infant pupils in Scoil Chaitríona, Galway, can be seen at http://scoilchaitrionajnrmsmcloughlin.blogspot.com/
