5th Lecture in the Fourth Seamus Heaney Lecture Series

The very high standard of the current Seamus Heaney Lecture Series, 'The Mirror Up to Nature', was splendidly maintained, on 12 February, by Professor Jonothan Neelands of Warwick University in what he insisted was his 'talk' (rather than lecture) on drama as 'mirror or dynamo', a wording which interestingly challenged the overall title of the series.  In championing more democratic, 'ensemble' models of drama and theatre, Professor Neelands drew attention to drama as ritual, as entertainment, as liberation.  He gave compelling examples of the integrative power of drama in the context of widespread immigration and the challenges raised by our new multi-cultural societies.

The occasion was graced by the presence of Seamus Heaney, whose most recent, of the myriad awards he has won is the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry.

All Welcome.
