Launch of Extended Higher Education Access Route

The launch took place on Tuesday 9 September of the extended Higher Education Access Route (HEAR) in which St Patrick’s College will be participating, along with six other Colleges of Education, the seven Universities and DIT.  The HEAR scheme, now extended to all 730 second level schools in Ireland, will broaden access opportunities to third level education for school leavers from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds across the country, recognising that educational disadvantage affects a cross section of all communities and is not confined to clearly identifiable areas or regions.

Whilst St Patrick’s College has already had a very successful access programme since 2004 for eligible school leavers wishing to undertake its BA in Humanities or Bachelor of Education programmes, the HEAR scheme helps to standardise access entry criteria across the Higher Education sector and streamlines the application process for students. Further information is available from the College Access Officer Vivienne.Byrne@spd.dcu.ie  or from the HEAR website at www.accesscollege.ie
