Well-Being
The research report commissioned by the NCCA: Well-Being and Post Primary Schooling compiled by Dr Maeve O’Brien with the Human Development Team at St Patrick’s College was launched on Thursday Dec 4th in Belvedere House by the Ombudsman for Children Ms Emily Logan. The proceedings were also addressed by the President of the College, Dr Pauric Travers, by Dr Anne Looney Chief Executive of the NCCA and Dr Maeve O’Brien author.
The Well-Being report reflects the strengths of the Human Development Team at St Patrick’s College, as it is an interdisciplinary review of international and national literature and research on happiness, quality of life and subjective well-being. It suggests that while a great deal of research has focused on educational outcomes in terms of the academic and the labour market that greater attention needs to be paid to the development of critical literacy for health and well-being and to education for relationships that enable young people to feel and to articulate their needs, hopes and understandings of happiness in post/modern democracies.
