The President of Dublin City University, Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski, and the Most Reverend Diarmuid Martin, Archbishop of Dublin, signed the new Linkage Agreement between St Patrick’s College and the University.  Dr Martin is Patron/Manager of the College.  The ceremony was witnessed by An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, TD.

The DCU/St Patrick’s College linkage builds on the original linkage of 1993, and seeks to facilitate increased collaboration between the two institutions.  Commenting on the linkage, the President of St Patrick’s College, Dr Pauric Travers, said that the relationship between the University and the College had proved beneficial to both and to the wider education system.  He looked forward to strengthening the relationship and working closely with the University in the years ahead in response to the changing needs of Irish society.

The signing of these unique and historic linkage agreements marks a milestone in Irish education and the shared commitment to developing co-operation between the four educational institutions.

Speaking at the signing of the agreement, DCU President Ferdinand von Prondzynski said, “ I am delighted that these three well-known and important educational institutions will now become colleges of DCU. As one of the leading universities in Ireland and one of the top 300 universities worldwide, DCU has for the past 8 years, identified innovative education policy as one of its strategic priorities.

The university with its three new colleges will now become the most significant provider in the state of teaching and research in teacher training, educational policy and related aspects of the Humanities”.

Together the three colleges along with DCU enrol over 13,000 students with 10,000 attending DCU, 2,400 at St Patrick’s College, 700 at All Hallows and 500 attending Mater Dei.
