Tennessee Williams Scholar Gives Masterclass

The MA in Theatre Studies, Department of English, in St Patrick's College hosted a lecture by internationally renowned Tennessee Williams scholar, Professor Emmanuel Vernadakis, Université d'Angers, France, on Thursday 10th March. This event marks the centenary year of the birth of the American playwright, Tennessee Williams (March 26, 1911 – February 25, 1983). Professor Vernadakis’ eloquent and erudite lecture uncovered deep insights into Williams’ plays: A Streetcar Named Desire, The Glass Menagerie and the short story, “The Yellow Bird”. The lecture was followed by an opportunity for the MA students and final year undergraduate students to engage in discussion with the guest speaker on the work of Williams.
Professor Vernadakis’ lecture was given as part of the series of master classes offered by the MA in Theatre Studies that reflect its ethos of excellence in the study of the practical and academic aspects of theatre.
