Mná na Éireann beat Aussies
Two students from Coláiste Phádraig, Mairéad Morrissey (2nd Year of the Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary Teaching) Programme) & Anne-Marie McDonagh (2nd Year B.Ed), played a central role in the recent Compromise Rules Women’s Gaelic Football Test v Australia. In the First Test, played under lights in Kingspan Breffni Park, Mairéad & Ann-Marie contributed a handsome total of 25 points to the Ireland tally of 113 to 19 for the visitors. They are captain and vice captain respectively of the current College Football team. Mairéad is a former third level All star winner and also captain of the College Camogie Team which won the Maher Cup in Limerick in 2005 and the Purcell Cup in Belfast 2004. Anne-Marie has been nominated as wing-back in this year’s Ladies All Stars.
When the action in the Second Test moved to Dublin's Parnell Park the following Sunday many of their friends and staff cheered them on to victory when Ireland ended with a score of 39 to 15.
The College commends the performance of both teams and is particularly pleased to have been closely associated with the first ever series of games between Australia & Ireland through the involvement of two of our students.
