ISME Conference - Beijing
Dr Patricia Flynn, Regina Murphy and Dr John O’Flynn (pictured below), and EdD student Siobhán Keane attended the 29th biennial conference of the International Society for Music Education (ISME), which was held in Beijing from 1-6 August. ISME was formed in 1953 as a strand of UNESCO 'to stimulate music education as an integral part of general education'. It has a leading role in the dissemination of international research and in the showcasing of best practice in music education.

In addition to presenting research papers and chairing symposia, delegates from the College also participated in a number of meetings and breakout sessions. The ISME general assembly, held towards the end of the conference, saw the re-election of Regina Murphy to the society’s international board of directors.
The 2010 conference coincided with the establishment of the Society for Music Education in Ireland / Cumann Oideachas Ceoil na hÉireann (the inaugural meeting of which was held in St Patrick’s College in June 2010). The new society was recently successful in its application for national affiliate status within ISME.
