National Religious Education Congress

The first ever National Religious Education Congress, attended by up to 400 delegates, was held in St Patrick’s College,Drumcondra recently. In his address to the Congress the Archbishop of Dublin and Patron of the College, Dr Diarmuid Martin reminded the participants that “the first task of the Catholic religious educator is to present the person of Christ to all.” The Congress included a wide range of national and international speakers and work-shop presenters including Frs Michael Paul Gallagher and Dermot Lane as well as Ms Carol Barry from the Religious Studies and Religious Education Department in St Patrick’s College who addressed the topic of The Spirituality of the Teacher. Dr Raymond Topley, Head of the Religious Studies and Religious Education Department in St Patrick’s College, publicly congratulated the Congress Committee and said that the College was honoured to be the chosen host location for this prestigious event.
