Network for the Education and Training of Teachers (NETT) Reunion Conference
The Network for the Education and Training of Teachers (NETT) Reunion Conference was hosted by the International Affairs Office at St Patrick’s College, 8th-11th June, with the participation of over 40 delegates from throughout Europe. College President Pauric Travers welcomed the guests to Ireland at a BBQ held in the College’s historic Quad area, while the Registrar, Olivia Bree officially opened the conference proceedings.
Presentations from College staff included: Perspectives on the Irish Educational Landscape by Regina Murphy, Director of Inservice Education; Special Needs Programmes by Joe Travers (Head of Special Educational Needs, SPD) and Herald Hofmeijer, International Coordinator, Marnix Academy, Netherlands; while methodological approaches and analysis of a special course delivered by the Geography Department for international students was presented by Ruth McManus and Gerry O’Reilly.
Workshops included: 1. Competences used in school placements (Mariska Jansen, International Coordinator, Marnix Academy). 2. Questionnaire Analyses (Soledad Guardia Gonzalez, International Coordinator, Complutense University, Madrid, and team). 3. Community development through service learning (Ben Bartels, International Coordinator, Hogeschool Arnheim-Nijmegen, Netherlands). 4. Good practice in short-term international programmes (Jan Karel Verheij, International Coordinator, Marnix Academy, Netherlands). 5. Introduction to MUNDUS programme (Vera Berg, International Coordinator, Oslo University College, Norway).
NETT delegates expressed their appreciation for a fieldtrip to Glendalough and the Wicklow region led by Jonathan Cherry, Geography Department, St Patrick's College.
