New Course for International Students
Irish Landscapes and Cultures (GEOG-IFTM, ECTs: 5.0), a new course for visiting international students, has been introduced by the Geography Department this year. Developed by Dr Gerry O’Reilly supported by Drs Susan Hegarty and Ruth McManus, the course includes a unique combination of fieldtrips (Boyne Valley), landscape-reading, seminars, projects and computer-based learning. It encourages students to gain insights into the various strands of Irish heritages and culture. The course aims: to introduce foundation concepts in geography and sustainable development; to facilitate conceptual linkages between the local, national and European scales and processes contributing to changing Ireland - Ireland in Europe and Europe in Ireland; to enhance students ICT learning and teaching skills through use of Moodle; to make academic research and skills from this course transferable to students and teachers back in their home countries.
