Teaching Practice: North South Project

St Patrick’s College is hosting the North South Student Teacher Exchange (SCoTENS) project this year. The project involves student teachers undertaking teaching practice in a new jurisdiction with opportunities to live on a different campus for a number of weeks, to meet and share resources and ideas about teaching and to experience new cultures and traditions. Méabh O’Connor, Leonora Doyle and Kiara Walsh (all second year BEd students, St Patrick's College) will undertake teaching practice in March in schools in Belfast and 4 students from St Mary’s College and Stranmillis College will teach for a number of weeks in the campus school (St Patrick’s BNS, Drumcondra) and in St Vincent de Paul SGNS, Griffith Avenue. Méabh, Leonora and Kiara will live on Stranmillis Campus for the duration of teaching practice. The project involves a wide range of people including Directors of Teaching Practice, tutors, students, Students’ Union, schools and the Centre for Cross Border studies. The Students’ Union President and Vice-President, Eamonn Bolton and Donal Hahessy are playing an important role in the project this year. In welcoming Colleges North and South at the Orientation Day, Dr Bernadette Ní Áingléis, (Director of Teaching Practice, St Patrick's College), emphasised the uniqueness of the project, its richness in terms of learning and teaching opportunities for student teachers North and South, and the collaborative spirit which has underpinned the project over the years. The photograph above was taken at the Project Orientation Day, 26 January, Skylon Hotel, Dublin.
