The twenty first Annual International Conference of the Irish Association of Teachers in Special Education (IATSE) was opened at St Patrick’s College last night, 11 June, by Professor Sheelagh Drudy.
The event also marked the fortieth anniversary of the establishment of IATSE in 1969. The association was established at the College by the graduation members of the Special Education Diploma Class of 1968-9. Among the attendance at the Conference were a number of founding member of the Association.
The keynote address was delivered by Fergus Finlay, CEO of Barnardos Children’s Charity. He complimented IATSE on its achievements and described parents as the advocates for special education and teachers as its champions. The keynote address was followed by a reception hosted by the President of St Patrick’s College Drumcondra, Dr Pauric Travers.
Other speakers at the conference included Therese McPhilips, Anne Marie Farrell, Michael O’Keeffe, Ann McGough and members of the Department of Special Education, St Patrick’s College.
