Paul Gilgunn BA 2010 Achieves 1st Place in National Musicology Competition

Paul Gilgunn who graduated with a BA from St Patrick's College last Saturday also recently achieved first place in the 2010 CHMHE Undergraduate Musicology Competition. The annual competition, organised by the Council of Heads of Music in Higher Education (CHMHE) is open to music students of all Irish third level institutions who are awarded the highest mark for final year disserations at their respective institutions. Paul's dissertation, 'Rhys Chatham’s A Crimson Grail: A Transition between Minimalist and Post-minimalist Music' which was supervised by Dr Rhona Clarke, presents an original analysis of Chatham's guitar ensemble works. In addition to receiving a cash prize, Paul has been invited to present a paper based on his dissertation at the Postgraduate Student's Conference of the Society for Musicology in Ireland, which will take place at Queen's University Belfast in January 2011.
