Celebratory Seminar

A celebratory seminar for the ten primary schools and sixteen final year BEd student teachers involved in the Partnership Project was held on Wednesday, 31st May in St Patrick’s College. The celebration marked the end of Phase 1 of the research project on partnership in teacher education. Dr Pauric Travers, President, opened proceedings with a presentation on the significance of the partnership project with schools for St Patrick’s College and for primary teacher education. A flavour of the partnership project as it played out in the schools for the class teachers, principals and the students was presented by Karen Costello (The students’ Perspective), Áine Dillon (The Class Teachers’ Perspective), Gerard Kelly (The Principals’ Perspective) and Paula Murphy (The Project Team’s Perspective). Risteard Ó Broin, Senior Inspector, Department of Education and Science, gave an insightful presentation on ‘Learning Communities’ in action, praising highly the partnership project, the participants and St. Patrick’s College. The seminar closed with a wonderful musical presentation by Neil Shanaghan and Sinead Keane, two of the BEd students involved in the project. Present at the seminar were school principals and teachers in the ten project primary schools, the sixteen project student teachers, colleagues in St Patrick’s College, guests and the project team comprising Paula Murphy, Mairéad Dunne, Diarmuid Toomey, Seán Mac Conmara and Bernadette Ní Áingléis.
