Pushkin ' Partners in Education' Residential Weekend

The Pushkin Trust, set up in 1987 by the Duchess of Abercorn, Baronscourt, to honour her ancestor Alexander Pushkin (Russia’s greatest poet), seeks to unite primary, secondary and third level students and educators at all levels, north and south, in the area of creativity and discovery. The Trust has at its core an holistic, creative professional development programme for students and teachers.  The vehicle for delivery of this programme is the creative arts and the natural environment.  As part of the Pushkin model, the Partners in Education programme seeks to develop creativity and the imagination in educators and student teachers.   Paula Murphy and Bernadette Ní Áingléis represented St. Patrick’s College at the Partners in Education residential weekend, Baronscourt, Omagh, 24-26th November 2006, at which the colleges of education north and south were represented. The weekend was facilitated by Lindsay Clark, author and poet. The workshops were located in the newly-opened Pushkin house (modelled on a Russian dacha), which sits in a quiet idyllic setting in the woods overlooking the lake at Baronscourt Estate.  A place apart. Seamus Heaney, Brian Friel, Maeve Binchy, John Banville, Marie Heaney, Doris Lessing among many others have long association with the Pushkin Trust - some as patrons, others as facilititators of the Pushkin model.
